Eagles Fall Short in Super Regional
L.A. Mission Eagles fall to Long Beach City College in CCCAA Super Regional.
No. 8 L.A. Mission baseball falls to No. 4 Long Beach City College in CCCAA Super Regional.
In the best-of-three series, the Eagles were unable to capitalize off runners in scoring position.
In Friday's 5-4 Viking win, the Eagles had twelve hits with RBIs from Josh Carlin and Tyler Grissom. Starting pitcher Anthony Donatella (7-4) went seven innings allowing five runs on thirteen hits.
In Saturday's 7-5 loss, Mission's offense threatened well into the ninth inning. Sophomore, Lukas Granado, hit a three-run homerun to lift the Eagles 7-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning. A base hit from Grissom put the game tying run at the plate. Despite a great at bat from Robert Reeves, Viking defense was potent as they recorded the final out to clinch the series.
The Eagles tallied twelve hits, with a triple from Reeves and RBIs from Granado and Sam Gray.
As the 2017 season comes to a close, we want to congratulate the entire L.A. Mission baseball team for an outstanding season and another Super Regional appearance since 2014.
Head Coach, Joe Cascione, recorded his 200th win against Palomar, May 6 of the CCCAA Regional. Cascione now holds the record for most wins in L.A. Mission baseball history.
With a season record finish of 28-16, the Eagles hold a new record for most wins in a single season.
Fifteen Eagles garnered All Western State-South Conference accolades, including All-Conference Player of the Year (Reeves), Pitcher of the Year (Donatella), and Coach of the Year (Cascione).
Congratulations on an amazing 2017 season. Keep soaring Eagles!
