Eagles Soar High
Several L.A. Mission baseball players were awarded All Western State Conference awards.
As L.A. Mission baseball still makes their run in playoffs toward a State Championship, several Eagles were recognized for their accomplishments during conference play.
Head coach, Joe Cascione, was named Coach of the Year with a 15-5 record to finish in first place in the Western State-South Conference.
Robert Reeves was awarded Conference Player of the Year, and Anthony Donatella received Conference Pitcher of the Year. Reeves had a batting average of .403, tallying 31 hits, 29 RBIs, and six homeruns. Donatella's record was 4-1, pitching 50.1 innings with an ERA of 1.79, and striking out 50 opposing hitters.
Eight Eagles garnered First Team All-Conference accolades. Freshman second baseman Tyler Grissom (.325), sophomore first baseman Josh Carlin (.333), freshman outfielder Sam Gray (.333), freshman catcher Robert Reeves (.403), sophomore designated hitter Alex Devito (.408), sophomore pitcher Anthony Donatella, sophomore pitcher Gonzalo Rios, and freshman pitcher Jesse Galindo.
Four players were honored with Second Team All-Conference. Sophomore infielder Ryan Galan (.286), sophomore outfielder Peter Abinanti (.260), freshman utility player Justin Minor (.316), and freshman pitcher Josh Garcia.
Honorable Mention was awarded to freshman short stop Victor Gonzalez (.200), sophomore pitcher Ben Kaser, and freshman outfielder Mike Rosati (.300).
