Eagles Take Conference Title
The Eagles defeated Los Angeles Pierce College on Thursday afternoon in the last game of the regular season to finish in first place in the conference.
The Eagles defeated Los Angeles Pierce College on Thursday afternoon to claim the Western-State South conference.
Before the game Mission and Pierce were tied with 14 wins each, but the Eagles were able to edge out the Brahmas 4-2 after nine innings.
While this title is big for Mission College, it’s how the athletes and staff came together throughout the whole season that is a testament to the overall strength of this team.
They have fought with injuries and had players step up big time during the past few weeks to show the depth and commitment of all the men on their roster.
Coach Joe Cascione says "Having players like Robert Reeves, Alex Devito, Tyler Grissom, Ben Kaser and Anthony Donatella has been key this whole season. Also with role players like Sam Gray, Jesse Galindo and Gonzalo Rios, just to name a few, stepping up when it really matters is what has allowed us to be this successful."
He then says that “Defense has been phenomenal so far and just doing the little things that aren’t necessarily impressive looking, but make a huge difference in the long run."
While everyone at Mission is enjoying this victory, the team is still preparing for the first round of playoffs set to start next Friday, May 5.
The coaching staff has stated that offense will be the main focus for the next few practices as they hope to make a solid run for the state championship.
“I think we have the guys that can do it, but needless to say you also need a lot of luck and you need to play really good baseball in post-season," says Cascione.
The Eagles' next matchup will be decided at the seeding meeting this Sunday.
