After fighting so hard to make it into playoffs this season and battling in the first round the Eagles were unable to capitalize and advance to the next match.
It was a rematch of last season’s playoffs that both teams were eager to begin.
Los Angeles Mission College was looking for another post season upset and Rio Hondo was looking to redeem themselves.
In 2015 this pair met up in the second round under similar circumstances with Mission being the lower ranked team against the home team Rio Hondo.
Also just like last time this year the game would finish with a 1-1 draw and go in to penalty kicks.
Both goals would come during the first half.
Rio Hondo scored first with and early goal in the 19th minute and Carlos Solorio would equalize for the eagles at the 36 minute mark.
In the second half the sun had set and play continued to get more aggressive.
The head official would give out 4 yellow cards during the remainder of the match for excessive contact.
Both teams had several opportunities to score a winning goal but good defense and some poor execution would keep the game tied through 90 minutes and extra time.
Going into PK’s things looked promising for Mission as Rio missed the first shot over the top of the goal.
The Eagles put in their first two goals making the score 2-1 in their favor.
The Rio Hondo keeper would save the third shot diving to his left tying the score 2-2.
Both teams would score on shot number 4 but then on shot 5 for Rio, Angel Noriega would come up with a huge save for Mission giving his team a chance to win the match.
The Rio keeper would come up with a great save of his own to keep the game tied 3-3 after 5 shots each.
Finally on shot eight a winner was decided when the Eagles ball hit the top bar giving Rio the 6-5 advantage and the win.
