Farias Named Finalist for 2018 NATYCAA Scholar-Athlete Award
LAMC Men's Soccer player Jesus Farias has reached the list of finalists for the 27th Annual NATYCAA Scholar-Athlete Awards.
Each year, the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators presents the award to one male and one female student-athlete from junior colleges across the United States. Farias, a redshirt freshman right defender from Venezuela, is among seven male contenders.
As per the NATYCAA website, the award honors student-athletes with a minimum 3.6 GPA*, outstanding athletic success, and exceptional qualities of leadership and citizenship, with participation in at least one complete season of varsity competition at the nominating institution.
Head Men's Soccer Coach Alberto Rosas describes Farias as aggressive and very hard to beat on the field. He is expected to be a key player and leader for the Eagles in the upcoming 2018 season.
"Jesus has been instrumental in helping the team reach a high level," Rosas said. "He is a unique and incredible person who has an exceptional grasp of understanding the relationship between hard work and success. Time and time again he has proven his willingness and ability to go the extra mile."
If he wins, Farias will be formally recognized at the NATYCAA Annual Convention, which will take place in Washington D.C. from June 27-29.
Farias came to the United States three years ago from Venezuela, and has been with the LA Mission soccer team for two years. He plans to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management and hopes to own a soccer team one day.
"It has been a joy to work with Jesus and watch his hard work and devotion take him to new levels of success," Rosas said. "We are honored to have him represent Men's Soccer and LAMC Athletics as a finalist for such a prestigious award."
