Men's Soccer 0-2-2 in WSC
In another tough week of Western State Conference play, Mission Soccer lost one and tied one to give them an 0-2-2 conference record.
They first competed Tuesday, Oct. 17, against Santa Barbara at home. Despite a good effort, the Eagles gave up a 3-3 tie to the Vaqueros late in the game after climbing back from a 3-1 deficit earlier. They lost with a final score of 4-3.
Santa Barbara, currently ranked 1st in the WSC, came in firing on all cylinders against the Eagles. For the first third of the game, they held Mission's offense at bay, rarely allowing them on their half of the field. They scored their first goal in the 27th minute, and another shortly after in the 34th.
Mission scored one goal before halftime, keeping them in range of a comeback at 2-1. In the 2nd half, the Vaqueros scored first again, but with 15 minutes left in the game, the Eagles scored two back-to-back goals to tie it up. However, Santa Barbara broke down the field for the go-ahead goal in the 79th minute, and Mission couldn't catch up.
The Eagles took their home field again Friday, Oct. 20, against Santa Monica, ranked 2nd in the WSC. Mission's defense was solid, allowing only one goal in the first half and shutting out the Corsairs in the second.
Mission scored early in the 2nd half to tie the game 1-1, but neither team was able to produce a goal afterward.
The Eagles play again at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Allan Hancock in a must-win game to remain in the running for playoffs.
