LA Mission Women’s Tennis Completes Historic Championship Season
The Los Angeles Mission College women’s tennis team closed the greatest seasons in school history, capturing the 2026 3C2A Women’s Dual Team State Championship, winning the Ojai Plate as the top overall women’s community college tennis program, and adding an individual state doubles championship from Jaelyn Rivera and Priscilla Grinner.
VENTURA/OJAI, Calif. — The Los Angeles Mission College women's tennis team closed the greatest seasons in school history, capturing the 2026 3C2A Women's Dual Team State Championship, winning the Ojai Plate as the top overall women's community college tennis program, and adding an individual state doubles championship from Jaelyn Rivera and Priscilla Grinner.
The Eagles defeated Sierra College, 5-4, in the 3C2A state championship match at Ventura College, completing a perfect 25-0 season and securing the first women's tennis team state championship in LA Mission College history.
The championship match came down to the final court. After Sierra rallied to take a 4-3 lead, Genesis Nochez tied the match with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win at No. 6 singles. Moments later, Josilyn Rivera delivered the clinching point at No. 3 singles, defeating Autumn Holmes 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (0) to give the Eagles the state title.
Priscilla Grinner also delivered a dominant singles victory in the championship match, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. In doubles, Amy Nghiem and Josilyn Rivera earned an 8-2 win at No. 2, while Alitzel Ortega Partida and Citlalli Diaz battled to a 9-7 victory at No. 3 doubles.

The Eagles' postseason success continued at The Ojai, where Jaelyn Rivera and Priscilla Grinner captured the women's doubles state championship. Their title added another historic accomplishment to a season already defined by team toughness, depth, and resilience. The 3C2A recognized Rivera and Grinner as the women's doubles champions.
Every Eagle contributed to the championship run. Amy Nghiem anchored the lineup at No. 1 singles and teamed with Josilyn Rivera for a key doubles win in the state final. Jaelyn Rivera competed at No. 2 singles and later teamed with Grinner to win the state doubles championship. Josilyn Rivera clinched the team state title with her dramatic three-set victory. Priscilla Grinner won her singles match in the team final and became a doubles state champion. Alitzel Ortega Partida and Citlalli Diaz gave Mission a crucial doubles point in the final. Genesis Nochez kept the Eagles alive with her pressure-filled win at No. 6 singles.
The Los Angeles Times also highlighted the local roots of the championship team, noting contributors from Granada Hills, Birmingham, Kennedy, Chatsworth, Golden Valley, West Ranch, and Sylmar high schools.
In just its fifth year as a program, LA Mission College women's tennis has reached the pinnacle of California community college athletics. An undefeated season, a state team championship, a Women's Community College Team Trophy from The Ojai, and a state championship doubles team mark a truly historic achievement.
The 2026 season will stand as a defining moment for LA Mission College Athletics — a championship built on resilience, depth, and an unwavering belief in one another.
