The women's volleyball season has started and the Eagles have been training hard since spring in preparation.
L.A. Mission is returning six players from last years team including Samantha Sullivan, Rachelle Zelada, Denise Torres, Zöe Bear, Samantha Sedano, and Marilyn Perez.
Unfortunately the team will be without sophomore outside hitter, Jennifer Gonzalez, who suffered an ACL tear during spring training.
Two players to watch out for this season are Sullivan and Zelada who are both switching to new positions to increase their effectiveness on the court.
Sullivan who was the team's setter last year is moving into the Libero spot this season, and will be looking to fill the shoes of the two time Eagles MVP, Lucia Estrada.
Zelada is moving from middle blocker to the outside hitter because head coach, Richard Barraza, wants her to take on a bigger leadership role with the team.
The Eagles have added nine new athletes to the roster, who will have an immediate impact on the program.
Along with these players comes new assistant coach, Charles Gage, who has had plenty of success both as an athlete and coach in the San Fernando Valley for many years.
The coaching staff has been working to improve offense across the net this season, while also maintaining a high level of defense and strong serving that the athletes displayed in 2016.
Last year, LAMC finished third in conference with a record of 5-5 and an overall record of 12-8.
