Eagles Unable to Keep Up With AVC
LA Mission College women’s volleyball loses its third match in conference
LA Mission College women's volleyball lost its third match in conference last Wednesday to Antelope Valley College in four sets.
The Eagles were unable to remain consistent throughout the evening and struggled to keep errors low, giving AVC an edge.
In the first set both teams played well, finishing with their highest hitting percentages of the match. LAMC hit .171 with 12 kills, and AVC hit .355 with 12 kills of their own and only a single error to win 25-20.
In Set 2 Mission took advantage of Antelope Valley's errors, managing to tally 14 kills and leading by as many as 8 points, eventually winning the game 25-20.
Things started going south with the Eagles hitting and passing in Set 3 and they totalled 16 unforced errors, giving AVC an easy finish of 25-18.
The Eagles never really appeared to find their rhythm again in the fourth set and were unable to recover, losing 25-15.
Starting outside hitter for Mission, Zoe Baer, did manage to achieve a career high 12 kills in just her second time playing that position after going in as a back row defensive specialist previously.
Currently the Eagles' conference record stands at 1-3, and the coaching staff believes that if they want to stand a chance of making it into playoffs, they will have to beat West LA College and Antelope Valley College as well as either Bakersfield College or College of the Canyons, who are both top-10 ranked programs in California.
LAMC women's volleyball will begin the second half of conference play next Wednesday, Nov. 1, at home against Bakersfield at 6 p.m.
