Athlete of the Month: Ruth Cobieya
L.A. Mission Athletics would like to recognize freshman Ruth Cobieya as Women's Cross Country outstanding athlete for the month of October. Ruth ran three exceptional races in October: the Moorpark Race and Roar Invitational, the Mt. SAC Invitational, and the Western State Conference Championship meet. She was the first Eagle across the finish line in each of those races.
Cobieya ran her first meet with the Eagles at the Fresno Invitational in September, finishing third for the Eagles with a 26:02. She cut her time down the next week to a 23:11 at the SoCal Preview Meet, and finished in the top three for the Eagles in each race for the remainder of the season. She ran a 22:29 at Moorpark, placing 11th overall, and followed up with a 22:52 at Mt. SAC to finish in the top half of all runners.
"Ruth is focused and competitive in races and puts in the extra time, energy and heart in each practice," Head Coach Julia Pickslay said. "Her positive attitude is infectious and transmits into her teammates."
