Los Angeles Mission College volleyball is on a roll. The Eagles kept their early-season momentum alive Saturday afternoon, sweeping Palomar College in straight sets (25–20, 25–20, 25–12) to stay unbeaten on opening weekend.
That makes three straight wins for the Eagles, who have yet to drop a match this season.
A Balanced Attack
The Eagles once again showed off their depth and firepower. Tawnie Ohrt was nearly unstoppable on the outside, hammering down 16 kills to lead all scorers. Right behind her was Maddie Perry, who added 12 kills and made her presence felt at the net with 3 blocks.
In the middle, Amya Cheatham January brought efficiency and muscle — racking up 8 kills on .429 hitting while teaming up for 5 block touches.
Setting the Table
Setter Natalee Becariarashid dished out a clean 30 assists, spreading the ball around and keeping Palomar's defense guessing. She added 2 service aces to cap off another steady floor performance.
And speaking of service pressure — the Eagles had it in spades. Rio Sandaiji turned defense into offense, piling up 21 digs while dropping in 4 aces, and Sofia Vazquez was equally sharp with 12 digs and 3 aces of her own.
Turning Points
-
Set 1 (25–20): Mission trailed early but pulled ahead behind Perry's heavy arm and January's blocks.
-
Set 2 (25–20): More of the same — a tight battle until late, when the Eagles' serve receive steadied and Ohrt took control.
-
Set 3 (25–12): Pure domination. Mission jumped out early and never looked back, finishing the match in emphatic fashion.
